MyrtleBeachOnline.com: News News, sports and entertainment from MyrtleBeachOnline.com Students sell Christmas cheer The horticulture students at Carolina Forest High School are selling about 750 poinsettias and 350 Christmas cactuses they have grown.

The plants will be sold at the school from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Gullah Geechee Festival/Atlantic Beach, SC

Come celebrate the historical contributions and significance of the African American Gullah- Geechee people of Horry County, surrounding counties, states and the US.  The 6th Annual Gullah Geechee Festival/Atlantic Beach will take place on Friday, August 15th through Sunday, August 16th, 2008 in Atlantic Beach, SC.The events include the following:  On Friday at 12:00 pm opening of the museum with poetry readings, story telling, artifacts, entertainment, old fashion fish fry, cultural lectures, artisans such as sweet grass basket sewers, hammock makers, boat makers, quilt makers, folk artists and a visit from the Gullah Geechee Corridor Commissioners at the Atlantic Beach Community Center at 1010 32nd Ave.On Saturday, August 16th the day begins with a parade at 12:00 pm beginning at 32nd and 3rd Ave (Atlantic Beach Town Hall) to 30th Ave to the Ocean, where we will enjoy Gullah educational events such as cultural lectures, artisans such as sweet grass basket sewers, photography, a market place (food and retails vendors), entertainment, folk artists, children entertainment and educational activities, and so much mote of thr good old days at Atlantic Beach.Vendor and parade applications are available by request, call Mrs. Vermelle Rodrigues (843) 235-0747 or (843) 215-4290.  All vendors will have to be makers and authors of their own wares.
