In a speech on his judicial philosophy delivered Tuesday in a chapel at North Carolina's Wake Forest University, Sen. John McCain sought to burnish his conservative credentials with a broadside against "the common and systematic abuse of our federal courts by the people we entrust with judicial power" and a promise of "better judges" in the mold of Supreme Court justices John G. ONLINE Iran cancels Iraq security talks with Iran called off further Iraq security talks with Washington until U.S. forces stop their crackdown on Shiite militias, but the military brought more air power into the fight Monday and escalated its accusations of Iranian backing for extremists.

The latest flare-up has put Iraq's government in a bind as it seeks to stamp out armed Shiite gangs but worries about angering Shiite heavyweight Iran, which has close ties to the core of Iraq's political leadership.

Washington has long accused Iran of arming and training some Shiite militia factions. The accusations were sharpened Monday as the military said detainees described being trained at bases outside Tehran by militants from Hezbollah, an Iranian-aided faction based in Lebanon. LOTTERIES South

Harbourgate Marina will host the 9th Annual Dixie Chicken “Funament", a multi species fishing tournament and fundraising event, May 24th - 25th.

The Dixie Chicken Funament, now in its ninth year, is a multi-species fishing tournament and fund-raising event attracting fishermen from across the country.  In addition to the "Funament" itself, the weekend event will play host to several functions including the Annual Flounder Frenzie sponsored by the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce.  The Dixie Chicken Funament features cash and prizes totaling approximately $50,000, with all proceeds going toward the development of an artificial reef located a short distance off the Little River Inlet, and easily accessible to all fishermen.
The Funament is held in honor of Jim Caudle, an avid fisherman who lost his life on January 20, 2000.  The event is named after Caudle’s boat, The Dixie Chicken, which was docked at Harbourgate Marina for more than a decade.  Jim Caudle’s vast knowledge of the local fish and their seasons, water temperatures, water color, wind directions and secret fishing spots impressed everyone who knew him.  For registration forms or more details visit: www.dixiechickenfunament.com
